ESPN article on Kobe beating MJ

This article is about how Kobe Bryant has passed Micheal Jordan on the scoring list in NBA history. He beat out Micheal Jordan to be third on the scoring list for total points in his NBA career. The big debate is who is better, Kobe or Jordan. This writer doesn't believe that he has completely earned or deserves his big hurrah for this accomplishment. The writer thinks that Kobe can be first on the list in the next 4 years which means he must not be doing too much of anything on the court. He doesn't seem to be a fan of Kobe and more one for Jordan and is trying to persuade people not be amazed by all the glitz and glam that people but around Kobe. For the time it is very relevant because there is always a discussion on if Kobe or Jordan is the better NBA player. The argument most of the time becomes one that people get very defensive about because each side is very opinionated. I don't personally like getting into the argument but there are great facts on each side of the table and I think will never be something that goes away.

1980- era sport

The playing level in the NBA is different in the 1980's from now because they played a lot more animated in the 80's. The player played with a lot more enthusiasm when dunking and made watching the game more interesting. Today player play more of a serious game and it doesn't seem to be as exciting as back then. Now they play don't go so much for the play that looks cool when doing it but do the play that will get them the points. This makes watching a boring at points but it is exciting when games are close. As for the uniforms the shorts were much shorter and they also wore knee high socks. Basketball players today wear looser shorts and shirts with lower socks and more likely than not with Nike shoes instead of converse.

Take it to the next level

The thing that surprised me the most is that I spend most of my time on meda and technology. I didn't take myself to be one that was rapped up in social media but it looks like I am in it more than I thought. No, I probably spend more time on stalling from doing the things I know that I need to get done. I wastes the most time being on my laptop surfing the web or watching shows. I think this is costing me in homework and getting things done on time. I will spend more time on looking for a show to watch on Netflix than on studying or doing homework. I think I should spend more time on studying and getting my assignments done a little bit earlier. I should spend less time on media and stay focused.

If You Let Your Kids Play Football, You’ve Lost Your Mind
By: Buzz Bissinger
Affiliation: Football is violence and bad for people.
Found: Time.com
September 18, 2014
1.      Why is football violent?
2.      Why is violence in America?
3.      Why is it bad to let kids play football?
4.      Why the author believes this?
5.      What makes parents crazy for allowing their children to play football?
To discourage people from playing football.

That playing football can cause traumatic brain injury.
That football is a bad sport that should not be played by anyone, especially children.
Football does cause brain injury and can be harming to anyone that plays it.
That no matter what technique someone teaches and knows nothing can protect them from what is going to happen from playing football.
Talks about statistics, but never points out a specific example.
No, it is very opinionated one way than the other. The author doesn't bother to give any details about the other opinions side of view.
No, because the author doesn't provide any actual facts that could be back up while reading the article.
I think it is somewhat accurate in the fact that football is a dangerous sport to play.
1. It can cause brain injury.
2. People are consumed with football
3. It can cause them injuries that can affect their lives later on.
4. It doesn't like that kids are in such danger to be messed up for the rest of their life just from playing football.
5. Parents know the risk of letting their kids play let they still let them do it.\
I could use this to help someone fight against letting football stay a sport in high schools.

Movie Review: Remeber the Titans

Remember the Titans is based of of a true story about how an African- American coach took on the challenge of coaching the first season of an integrated football team. This all starts because a black and white school are both closed in Virginia and they are being forced to integrate. The coach has to battle throughout the whole movie to get the black and white players to get along with each other. Denzel Washington plays as the coach in the is movie and does a great job displaying the anger that went along with having that kind of coaching job. At the end of the movie he finally has the players playing as a team and somewhat getting along with each other. Even though the movie isn't completely correct to what happen in history it does make it very interesting to watch and possible do more research about this time in history. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and all the actors involved. The whole time I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to d\see what drama was going to come on the screen next and weather or not the team would stay together. I would recommend this movie to all genders and ages.

Dream Job

My dream job is to work in a hospital or house that is meant for girls with eating disorders as a counseling psychologist. This job would be in Kansas outside of a major city so I wouldn't have to deal with traffic or loud noises. Also I would want a salary that is close to $80,000 per year as soon as I start working. The house I worked in would have a comfortable setting that felt like home and not a jail cell. At my job all my girls would be slowly improving their lives daily, and I would know that I helped guide them to a better self. In the house I would be slowly working my way up to the top counselor and getting paid more. While I'm working there also I have stable emotions so that I don't let to much get to me. Also that I will be giving the best advice I can offer, and can physically see changes in my girls. Most importantly at this dream job I would walk into work happy to be there and loving every second of it. This job would be something I looked forward to going to every day and not something that I was dreading.

Movie Review: 42

The movie 42 is all about an African American male, Jackie Robinson, who makes it into the MLB in a time when it was said that whites and blacks were to be separate. Throughout the entire movie it shows him overcoming many racial obsticals thrown at him. In this time, espically in the south, there were many people that doubted the black community and there potential.  Jackie Robinson led the way for many more African American athletes to push their way into playing higher level athletics and removing segregation. I think the movie was very accurate in the showing how tough it was at that time for black Americans in that time period along with how Jackie had a big influnce in baseball rules. Overall, I thought this was a great movie that depicted a a great time in history very well. The actor did a great job showing feeling through the screen. In the movie I also loved how they showed that Jackie Robison actually changed the minds and attitudes of the people that doubted them. Its was an inspiring movie to go and watch. I fully recommend all genders and ages to go and see this movie.

Activity

The first essay, by Fred Janzow, was the one I could personally relate to the most with my choice in coming to SEMO. I agree with him on the fact that going to college should be about the experience and growth that people go to instead of going to get paid more money. My choice in coming to SEMO was very much so influenced by my parents and friends. When deciding which college to go to I fell into he pressure of my family. Overall I am very happy with the choice I made but like the author said going over all my choices would have been helpful. In the second essay I didn't completely disagree with what he had to say but didn't fully agree either. Bruce Domazlicky, author of the second essay, thought that a main reason to go to college was for the benefit afterwards of getting paid more money. That reason to me is a good reason to go to college, but should not be the only push behind going. I think it should mainly be about the responsibility and growing up that happens in college. It is also a great benefit in the fact that I can get paid more money in the long run of life, but I don't want to just remember some of the most important time of my life as being awful because I just came to get a better pay. During college I want to see my knowledge and love for the career I want to purse become even larger than it already is today.
First, I already knew in about seventh grade that I was going to college because my mom told me college or the military. One of the main reasons I came to Southeast is because of its location. My home town is only a little over two hours away which means I can visit home on any free day and be able to come back that same day. Another big reason was because my family thought it would be a really great fit and so did my club coaches regarding volleyball. There was a lot of pressure coming from both my family and coaches which is what pushed me into playing for SEMO. Other reasons I feel students go to college are for the two reasons the authors said, the experience and the benefits financially in the long run, but also for independence and parties.
   I am at Southeast to
1. Grow as a person
2. Get my education
3. Help my team to some great wins
   Academically I plan on
1.Making sure to get my homework done and turned in as early as I can
2. Going to class
3. Studying and holding information about material that I have to read.
